Clinical Connect – Peer Education Programme

Small group evolves with new name

The Pegasus Health Small Group Education Programme was established over 30 years ago and has grown and evolved over time to now be delivered in other regions of New Zealand and overseas. The programme is developed and run by the Clinical Quality and Education Team. The team saw the programme growing in terms of its quality and reputation and decided it would be a great time to ‘refresh’ the name and brand of the programme.

Louise Kennedy, Service Manager for the Clinical Quality and Education team said, “Our programme has matured to be highly regarded over time and we felt our name and brand needed to reflect the high quality that the programme offers to clinicians across the country” The team decided to undertake a series of workshops and research working with an external agency to support the development of a new brand.

The programme has evolved over time from a GP education programme to a multidisciplinary programme, specifically developed for the primary care workforce. The programme aims to improve clinical decision making and to play a key role in connecting primary care teams and supporting a team approach to patient care.

Dr Ben Hudson, Medical Director for Pegasus Health felt that the programmes new name needed to honour its history and founding which started in the early 1990s at Pegasus Health. “We know that what makes the programme so special and valued are its founding principles which underpinned the development of a, peer-led evidence-based education programme that allowed clinicians to discuss their practice in a trusted, small group environment.”

It was important to the CQE Team to make sure the development of the name and brand was a collaborative process working with a range of stakeholders from programme attendees through to internal teams and senior leadership within Pegasus Health. “We worked through a broad range of options in terms of the name and what came through clearly was the people centric nature of our programme – that’s where the word connect comes in” Louise said.

The name Clinical Connect – Peer Education Programme was decided on and the team then worked through a series of visual options agreeing on a teal colour that felt open and approachable. “We are thrilled with the new name and brand and look forward to rolling it out across the programme in 2024. The feedback so far has been really positive, and we are excited to see it come to life”.
